Tip #38

Pennsylvania's Recording Offices

Each county has two different recording offices. One is the Prothonotary, which accepts state, federal, and other tax lien filings, as well as UCC filings on farm or real estate collateral. The Prothonotary also maintains the Court of Common Pleas Civil Court Cases. In addition to the Prothonotary, Pennsylvania counties also have Recorder of Deeds offices, which maintain real estate records.
